The Egyptians-Making a Shaduf-Science & Technology

25th Jan 2017

As you can see, the children had great fun making an Egyptian Shaduf. Once the waters of the Nile went down each year, the rich, black mud would start to dry out in the sun.  The farmers tried to trap as much of the floodwater as possible in mud-brick reservoirs and irrigation canals.  They then lifted the water from canals to the fields using a device called a Shaduf. Each Shaduf could be operated by just one person.
